The Xiaomi Mi 6 is now official. Introduced by Xiaomi founder Lei Jun this morning, the eagerly awaited handset features a 5.15-inch display carrying a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. The Snapdragon 835 chipset is under the hood with an octa-core 2.45 GHz CPU and the Adreno 540 GPU. The handset will come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of native storage. A 3350mAh battery is charged with keeping the lights on. Because the Snapdragon 835 SoC is 25% more efficient than the Snapdragon 820, the Mi 6 should provide users with outstanding battery life.
While there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, the Mi 6 will feature stereo speakers. Wholesale Xiaomi Phones is throwing in Qualcomm’s Sense ID technology, which means that the handset’s fingerprint scanner scans fingerprints in three dimensions, making it harder to bypass. Giving the Mi 6 a premium look is four-sided 3D curved glass. The version of Xiaomi’s MIUI based on Android 7.1.1 is pre-installed, and a Type-C USB port is on board.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be available in Black, White and Blue with two special editions, Ceramic and Silver. The ceramic edition will feature 18K gold camera rims. The device measures 7.45mm thick, and is splash-resistant.
The next big thing in the Mi 6 is the dual camera with telephoto lens, iPhone 7 Plus style, which will offer 2x real “optical” zoom, again, just like the iPhone. The other new feature seemingly aped from Apple’s roster are the stereo speakers, apparently in a similar setup like on the iPhones, with the earpiece serving as an amplified speaker, plus a bottom-firing one. There is a huge elliptical under-glass finger scanner underneath the 5.15″ 1080p display, and copious amount of bezels on the chin and forehead – Xiaomi didn’t get the memo that we are living in the bezel-less year for flagships.
The unit packing 128GB of native storage will cost the equivalent of $421 USD, and the Ceramic edition is priced at the equivalent of $436 USD. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be released on April 28th and and in all 72 Mi Home stores in China.
